Video 1, Karate History: The origins of effective hand and foot self defense  
                                             (10 min 15sec, 10MB)

Hundreds of year ago Karate became a practical art for a good reason - weapons were outlawed by Japanese rulers leaving people with only their hands and feet as weapons. This 1st video covers history and development from China to Okinawa and Japan. Covers the major styles Shito-Ryu, Shotokan & Goju, including founders such as Mabuni and Funakoshi and Japan based interview with a an 8th Degree (Dan) master - Sotokawa sensei.

Video 2, Knockout Techniques       (7 min 51sec, 10MB)

It is important to undertsand what it takes to knock someone down. This video shows real video footage of black belts being knocked down from karate in the USA, Australia and Japan. Also explains why Japanese karate and self defense need to be mixed to be effective. Some analysis of knock down fighting to understand effective technique.

Video 3, Basic Punch (Seiken)       (7 min 45sec, 11MB)

Explains the basics of speed and power for punching. Correct hand position and example video footage from Japan. Protection of your owns hands while punchig is also covered.

Video 4, Lower Block (gedan Barai)         (7 min 49sec, 11MB)

Introduction to blocking your body using a lower block. Closed hand down block effective for blocking a punch, kick, or grab to the body. Both a black belt and beginner student are featured in the video to convey the process of learning.

Video 5, Kiai, A Loud Yell?       (2 min 23sec, 11MB)

Kiai is a loud yell associated with a punch or a kick. This video lesson explains why it is important for scaring/surprising your opponent, creating correct breathing, stomach tension. The projection of of "Ki", or "Chi" to intimidate an opponent is introduced.

Video 6, Self Defence 1       (13 min 14sec, 16MB)

Self defense techniques include: open hand strike to the ear, throat strike to close off the esophagus and break free from a wrist grab.

Video 7, Upper Block (Jodan Uke, Age Uke)      (6 min 11sec, 9MB)

Introduction to protecting your face. Closed hand raising block is effective for blocking a punch, or grab to the head. Both a black belt and beginner student are featured in the video to convey the process of learning.

Technisues in drill versions are effective in producing speed, power and instinctive reactionscrucial to success in a self defense scenario. This workout shows you how to achieve the above. This is also an example of a class style workout and will show how one develops physical fitness through the martial arts.

Video 9, Zen philosophy and the martial arts - effective and commited self defense techniques      (8 min 46sec, 8MB)

In the West Zen is rarely taught as an integral part of martial arts and self defense technique. This video lesson introduces examples of how Zen is applied to karate and fighting, and explains why the mind and confidence play such an important role in hand to hand combat.
